Emilie Raguso is a veteran journalist reporting on crime and public safety in Berkeley and Alameda County. She has been part of small teams to win three Excellence in Journalism awards from SPJ NorCal and a George Polk Award, among other honors. She was SPJ NorCal Journalist of the Year in 2017.

 

Before founding The Berkeley Scanner and working at Berkeleyside, she launched and ran a news site in Albany, CA. Her stories have been featured on the New York Times website, Salon and NPR. Emilie was a crime reporter for The Modesto Bee and has a master’s in journalism from UC Berkeley. She has lived in the East Bay since 2004.
